CSR Strategy
The Brinkley Mining CSR strategy consists of two planks of activity.
They are:
i. Embedding CSR across our business
It is imperative, for Brinkley’s CSR strategy to be successful, that we internalise and embed the competencies and activities required to consistently behave responsibly in every aspect of the mining lifecycle.
We plan to do this by:
- Internally agreeing a Social Issues Management System (SIMS)
- Training the appropriate functional persons in the operation of the Social Issues Management System
A systematic and disciplined approach to CSR embraced by every part of our business – and applied in every aspect of the mining lifecycle - will ensure that we:
- recognise potential threats and opportunities before, during and after our activities;
- systematically map and engage with stakeholders;
- plan, in a structured and guided manner, how to mitigate impacts and create the kind of positive interventions that will ensure a net positive impact, however brief our engagement;
- consistently report on our behaviour;
- plan for and demonstrate continuous improvement in our behaviour in a way that will reflect the expectations of our stakeholders.
ii. Establishing partnerships and collaborations at corporate level and where we operate:
Brinkley Mining recognises that developmental issues are not naturally part of a mining company’s core skill-set.
We therefore believe that (as the 2002 Earth Summit in Johannesburg highlighted) the establishment of partnerships with business, NGOs and civil society will be a key ingredient in addressing the needs in developing countries in a sustainable manner.
